Josi's Judgements: Dress to Impress?

Written by Josi Bambrook Columnist

Students from elementary all the way up to high school are wearing pajamas to school as their attire. Personally, I do not think that wearing your favorite footie pajamas to school is appropriate. I have seen students wearing footie pajamas and pajama bottoms with t-shirts or hoodies to school. When going to school, you should dress with care. It seems that a lot of students, who dress without care, don’t really have a care for their education at all.

When wearing pajamas to school, students might ask “Wearing pajamas is basically wearing sweatpants, right?” Wrong. Pajamas were made to be worn to sleep at night, not worn to school where thousands of people can see you. I’m not saying it’s completely wrong to wear your most comfy clothes to school but if we are going to do that, we should have a day dedicated to wearing pajamas.
Students are saying that wearing pajamas to school is basically just a free pass for them to relax and sleep in school. Students who are dressing up for school are more likely to pay attention in class and not slack off.
What happened to dressing to impress? Students who feel they have no one to impress, don’t dress with any effort. Now you can see how dressing without effort can show a low self-esteem. I think that another reason students are wearing pajamas to school is because they are too tired to change their clothes, which is not very hygienic.
I think that a solution to this problem could be that we have a pajama day or days. We should have pajama days on each Wednesday that is not a late start. By having a pajama day we can bring all the students together. This can create a feeling of being a part of something for the students whom do not have that. I feel that having these days dedicated to wearing pajamas, less students will regularly wear their sleeping attire to school.
