The Meaning Behind the Ink

Written by Demi Muchmore Editor-In-Chief

Many people have different visual opinions on tattoos.  I personally believe it’s okay to have tattoos. I even want to get one, if not multiple, of my own.

People portray people who have tattoos as trashy or asking for attention. I think this occurs more in high school, but if you go out and get a tattoo of a cross or a quote you are now classified as a “basic” person. If you want to put a quote on your body, then go for it. I think people mistake these quote tattoos as something they are not. For example, a permanent quote tattooed on your body might be the only thing that will get you through the day.
You better think long and hard before you get any type of tattoo anywhere. At our age, most of us don’t know what we want to do as a career so if you go out and get a big colorful tattoo on your neck and later decide to be a lawyer, you will most likely not be hired.
That also goes for many other jobs. For example, if you are a cars salesman and you have a sleeve of tattoos all down your arm, most businesses will make you wear a long sleeve shirt year-round. So I’m sure you will be regretting your tattoo decision when you’re at work in an uncomfortable outfit.
If you find someday that you don’t like your tattoo anymore then there are other alternatives like a tattoo cover up.  During this process,  the original tattoo is turned into something more pleasurable to you.
Don’t ever regret getting a tattoo. At one point it had a meaning.
Overall I think tattoos are a creative way to express yourself. Who cares if anybody judges you. The only person who has to like your tattoo is you. It is only going to be on your body, not anybody else’s.
