Wrestling Managers for SEP

The wrestling season has come to close and the coaches and athletes are receiving recognition for their hard work. The wrestling managers have been left in the shadows.
“A wrestling manager is a person who helps out with the wrestling team in whatever way possible,” said sophomore Erin Miklus. There are a total of 12 managers that helped with the team this year which is a lot according to Miklus.
“As wrestling managers we clean the mats, clean up blood, take stats and enter them into the computers, video tape, tag the videos on huddle, get water bottles, we pretty much do anything they ask. We buy the wrestlers stuff sometimes. We basically just get everything ready for the team,” said sophomore Anna Sargent. Both Miklus and Sargent got involved in wrestling in the same way- their brothers.
“When my brother wrestled, I wanted to be a part of wrestling because I got close with the coaches and overall just liked the sport,” said Sargent. There are many great opportunities that come with being a wrestling manager here at Southeast Polk.
“Being a wrestling manager is super fun and it’s not what everyone thinks. Sometimes we get to leave school early and we get free t-shirts, but it’s not a reason to join the wrestling manager staff, you actually have to understand the sport,” said Miklus. The managers are always happy to have new managers join the staff and can’t wait to see what new season brings and what new faces will be on the mat and working behind the scenes.
“If you are looking to join next year please know what you’re doing. I mean we love new people and we love being a part of something great here at Southeast Polk, but if you’re going to join at least know what you’re doing,” said Sargent.
The wrestling season may be over but the coaches, athletes and managers are already excited for the 2015-2016 season.
