College and Career Planning Night is coming up for Southeast Polk students and their families to help learn about how to plan their future on the night of November 9th.
Students will be able to get closer and firsthand look at colleges across Iowa. Not only colleges, but other staff will also cover other experiences you could encounter when you're older and out of high school. They will go over military and job apprenticeships opportunity, financial planning for post-secondary education and even an ACT test prep for those juniors and seniors.
However, not many students take advantage of the event. Counselor Kari Fast explains why students should come to the College and Career Planning Night.
“The College and Career Planning Night offers freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors a wide range of breakout sessions to attend that are of relevance to them at their particular grade level. The evening will also include a college and career fair as well to help students begin to explore the means by which they accomplish their post high school goals. It is never too early for students to begin thinking about what they want to do with their lives beyond high school. Being prepared and informed are key to achieving success in life,” said Fast.
Many students wonder what the benefits exactly of the planning night are.
“The College and Career Planning Night offers a diverse representation of colleges, apprenticeship programs, military options, and employment opportunities for students. The College and Career Planning Night also features breakout sessions that are relevant to every grade level. The evening truly has something to offer everyone no matter what grade, interest area, or plan they have for life after high school,” said Fast.

The night will consist of all the college fair from 5 - 8 pm, and a breakout sessions from 6 - 8, going over all the other available choices for high schoolers’ after graduation.
