Students Write Rhyming Poems in Creative Writing

Currently in Mrs. Pappan’s creative writing class, students are writing rhyming poems. For many, rhyming comes very easy to them.  They can just spit words out and they work. For others, they struggle with coming up with the words that rhyme together.
“I didn’t like the rhyming unit. It limits you to the words you can use because you have to be sure that it will rhyme”, said junior Jade Woods. According to poemhunter.com; a rhyme is a repetition of similar sounds, or of the same sounds, in two or more words. The word rhyme is a Germanic term meaning “series or sequence.”  Also the word rhyme has multiple spellings. For example; rime or ryme.

Although rhyming poems can sometimes be difficult, they can be fun. “The one thing I did like was the rhythm that you create with the rhyming poems,” Woods said.
