2015-2016 School Year Calendar Changes

                It might seem strange to discuss next school year when the current school year is still unfinished, but next year’s school schedule is official and has been published.
                The start date for teachers to come back and begin preparing for all the students will be August 18.
                This year’s start date for students will be August 24th. This is a little bit further into the summer than what students are used to, but no one is willing to complain about it since this means they will get a longer summer.
                Along with the good news comes the bad news. For years SEP had fall semester finals before winter break, concluding the first semester. Now students will leave for winter break and then will come back to take finals, with the first semester ending on January 15th. This decision has not been agreeable to the student body.
               “I think the idea is dumb and I prefer coming back to school without any worries and not having to study over winter break,” said junior Caelin Stebbins.

Kaelee Kessee Managing Editor                  In social studies Eric Gross’s AP Human Geography class, students have been learning the skill of answering essay questions that will be seen on the AP tests this May.                 The questions are known as Free Response Questions or FRQs for short. The questions are centered on the material learned in the class throughout the semester. The most recent FRQ pertained to the information learned in the second unit of the book over population and migration.                 The students had the opportunity to take their first FRQs home to work on them overnight.                 “I thought that for the first one it would be good to do a take home assignment to gently get [them] into it. School Board Establishes Ban on Yoga Pants

Emily Merkle Design Editor               As of April 1, 2015, The Southeast Polk school board has established a ban on wearing yoga pants or leggings during school hours.               “The only time I can see pants like these deemed appropriate is during school sports like cross country and dance team,” said Principal Aidon Know.                The spandex apparel ban follows under the non-discrimination policy stating “ The Southeast Polk Community School District does not discriminate based on race, color, creed, religion, national origin, sex, gender identity, age, disability, marital status, sexual orientation, physical attributes , physical or mental ability or disability, ancestry, political party preference, military affiliation, socioeconomic status or familial status.”              The physical attributes section is revealed in yoga pants by how tight the clothing articles are to a person’s body exposing their natural body shape.  By exposing their natural body

Stand for the Silent Posts Sticky Notes

Demi Muchmore Editor in Chief                 Notice the sticky notes on all the lockers as you’re walking in the hallway to class? You have Stand For The Silent members to thank for that. These aren’t just ordinary sticky notes, on every single sticky note there is an inspirational quote to start your day.                 During spring break, students that are a part of stand for the silent got together and made a sticky note for every single locker in this school. Mrs. Goodrich is in charge of this club and actually came up with the idea. “We did it to uplift people after coming back from break,” sophomore Cassidy Oberbroeckling said.                 When asking other students what they thought of the idea, they responded with positive feedback. “It was a very good idea and it was cool to walk around and see all of the different messages,” senior Nic Henderson said.                 Doing these creative messages can really help to brighten a student’s day after everyone
