FCCLA, one of the newest clubs to come to Southeast Polk, attended their state competition on March 30 and 31.
FCCLA stands for Family Careers Community Leaders of America. Members take part in community service projects. After members have completed the community service or an activity that brings the community closer together he or she presents the project to a panel of judges.
Sophomore Kaitlin Brown competed in an event called chapter review at their last competition.
“Brittany Ringler and I had to take everything that the SEP chapter [has] done so far this year and put it into a project,” said Brown. Six members competed in star events at their recent competition. Kayla Keoouthai was one of those six students.
“Sheridan Stromley, McKayla Birkenholtz and I did a star event project under the topic of life planning,” said Keoouthai.
Brown and Ringler won a gold award which is the highest place a member can get and they have a chance to attend nationals in Washington D.C. Keoouthai, Stromley and Birkenholtz all got 8th place and received a silver medal.
Being a part of FCCLA has a lot of benefits other than just the satisfaction of helping out the community, such as meeting new people. Anyone is welcome to join FCCLA- all a student has to do is talk to the advisor, Mrs. Marasco, whose classroom is located in the business hallway.
