New Head Coach Not Coming Home
Pete Ruden
After
resigning from Ankeny, head coach Brad Zelenovich is no longer returning to
Southeast Polk. The hire of the former Southeast Polk assistant was pending
school board approval, which did not pass, so the Rams will continue their
search for a new head coach.
“Brad is a
great coach and I know that he will have a job by the time football season
starts,” Iowa Hawkeyes head football coach Kirk Ferentz said. “Southeast Polk
is missing out on a once in a lifetime football coach, who knows how to win
games.”
In two
seasons at Ankeny, Zelenovich had a 4-6 season and a 9-3 season, respectively,
as well as leading the Hawks to the poatseason in both of his seasons. After
former head coach Denny Muller resigned from Southeast Polk, Zelenovich was
intending to return to the Rams, where he was an assistant coach for ten years.
“It’s a
tragedy that Z won’t be allowed back to possibly lead his old school to a state
title,” Iowa State head coach Paul Rhoads said. “The potential that Brad brings
to any program as a coach is just outstanding. It’s a shame that he won’t get
that chance.”
The Rams
will continue their search for a new head coach, as the team starts heading
into offseason workouts. That new coach will get their first taste of action
when the Rams take on the Johnston Dragons on August 28 at home.
